My First Blog ... Where to start...
Those crazy first thoughts that I could run my own business from home around my family. Why not? people do it, or do they?Setting up a 'kitchen table' company from home is not so different from having a baby. There is the pleasure and pride of someone telling you that your product " is beautiful"," cute" or " they'd love one", then there is the pain. Not quite as bad as the time my son broke his arm or my other son smashed his front tooth out, it's more of a crushing, disappointment when someone tells you that it's a minimum order of a million pieces (not quite, but might as well be) and that it will cost you £25,000. I want to say " I do still want to stay married and my husband is behind me 100% but I couldn't hide all those towels in the boot of the car like that Hobbs bag that has taken 3 days to get into the house."Other pleasures have included rediscovering real people, not just virtual ones on Etsy. At my local Business Gateway, where I have been to learn about Social Media (hence this blog), I realised that non-invasive liposuction, life coaching and fly tying businesses are all being set up at this very moment.Pain. Using a mother and toddlers as a focus group. To be fair there were grans and gramps too but it was still daunting to approach strangers to find out their views, especially looking on in horror as a little super hero was given one of my adorable towels to drag around the floor, " Not to worry " I reassured " they come up beautifully after a wash and a tumble".
